There are two types of handicaps that will be used in the 2020 Ryder Cup season: Stroke Play, and Match Play.
Stroke Play Handicaps: Handicaps are course-specific, calculated using the best 8 of the preceding 10 scores submitted by each player on the specific course that the tournament is being played on, and calculating their average above or below par. Where more than one course is to be played in a tournament then an average is calculated using the best 8 from 10 scores on all featured courses. If a player has registered less than five club rounds on an individual course then their handicap for the tournament will be based on the best 12 of the preceding 15 scores submitted across all courses. Handicaps are calculated to one decimal place.
If a player's handicap is below par, e.g. -6.3, then that is the number that is added to their score in each round of the tournament. Conversely if their average score is above par, e.g. +1.6 then that amount is subtracted from each of their rounds in the tournament.
Match Play Handicaps: Some tournaments (President's Cup, World Cup, Oktoberfest and World Series) include a match play bracket component. In order to make the matches between opponents more of a balanced contest, each player's stroke play handicap for the course a match is played on is used, and the lower handicap is subtracted from the higher and rounded to the nearest whole number...then one stroke is subtracted. So, if Player A has a handicap of -8.3 and player B's handicap is -2.7, the handicap difference is 5 (8.3 - 2.7 = 5.6, rounded to the nearest whole number = 6 and then one stroke subtracted = 5.)
These strokes are then incorporated as conceded shots using the 'air shots' method. If an air shot is to be conceded on a given hole then the player conceding the shot tees off as usual, but when their next shot is due they use their putter to gently play a short putt on the fairway (or rough!) which will not move the ball anywhere, but will add a stroke to their total for the hole. In the above calculated example Player A will concede 5 such shots to Player B during the course of their match, and for each tournament match there will be a post in the forum detailing who concedes shots to who and on which holes that should take place.
The current month's stroke play handicaps are shown below. Handicaps may appear as +0.0 until all the preceding rounds on the specific courses included in the calculations are complete.

Handicap System for Knockout competitions:
Effective immediately we will be using a handicap system for all knockout events starting with The 2017 World Cup, this system will also be in effect during any scheduled singles Holy Grail/Ryder Cup matches.
This is not required during “random” matches or Alternate shot matches, although member do have the option of using the system if they wish. You would just be required to do the math!
Qualifying Rounds:
The likelihood of two or more players being tied for one of the playoff positions is quite high, in these cases the member with the highest handicap will move forward.
For example, in the upcoming World Cup if Bubba scores 60, +12 handicap = 72. And Johnny scores 66, +6 handicap also =72
IF they are tied for the last spot available and since Bubba's handicap is higher he moves into the knockout stage.
A similar situation could also occur when more than one play is involved with a tie and the same formula will be used, (Highest handicap move forward)
In the event players with the same handicap are tied for any spot(s) to qualify for the knockout stage a playoff will be created to determine who moves on.
Knockout Stage:
There is no changes to who you play during this stage (#1 qualifier will still play #8 qualifier) however we will be implementing a handicap system where the member with the higher handicap will forfeit certain holes.
For example: Nigel qualifies in the #1 spot with a 12 handicap and Tuxedo qualifies in the #8 spot with a 4 handicap.12 - 4 = 8
We then divide that in half and Nigel is required to forfeit 4 holes (2 a side) In this example by rule,Tuxedo has chosen Pebble Beach. If the number to be conceded is inexact, always round down to the nearest whole number.
The lower handicapped player, Tuxedo, can either choose the the two holes each side or you may used the 4 lowest handicapped holes as determined by the Golf course. In this sample Tuxedo has chosen the 4 highest handicapped holes as determined by the Pebble beach designers. These are found on the scorecard ( A sample is shown below)
During their match Nigel is required to forfeit #6 and #9 on the front nine and then #14 and #18 on the back nine.
Since the game itself does not “recognize”any of this during play, in a very few rare cases members should also use common sense.
For example: If Nigel is 3up on the #16th tee and since there is one more hole for him to forfeit, he would then forfeit #16 and forgo the forfeit on #18 in the example below, so the match can continue.
A winner could also be determined before the round ends, you will need to either complete the round or the “looser” could just forfeit the mach (Not recommended)
Once you have completed your match just post the score to the forum.
For the beginning of 2018 season all scores posted in The Masters were used.
The 2019 handicaps are calculated by recording how far above or below a player was in each of his or her's last 15 competition rounds, and then taking an average of the lowest 12 scores from those 15 rounds.
